That's great to hear. I haven't tried the setup you have. My Yahoo mail goes to a hosted Exchange server, and I connect everything to that. Connecting a smartphone like you have adds a little twist to things since Yahoo mail seems to work differently for smartphones versus desktop devices.
Thanks for updating us on your progress.

I think I figured it out. I should have been paying attention to the options I was selecting rather than just blindly copying your instructions. I made the tweaks needed, and it seems to be working . . . . at least so far, so good.
Thanks again for your great instructions.

Hi Bill,

I think I figured it out. Great instructions for connecting Yahoo email to Outlook. Everything worked like a charm!
I have a question. Is it possible to keep a copy of my inbox in both Yahoo and Outlook where I can delete emails from my inbox in Outlook and it automatically deletes in Yahoo? The reason that I ask is that I like to be able to see my Yahoo inbox on my smartphone. I use Outlook on my laptop to manage my calendar using email invitations from friends using Outlook as well as to manage email when I'm at my laptop.
Thanks in advance for your response.

Hi Bill,

Great instructions for connecting Yahoo email to Outlook. Are you still seeing this problem? I haven't come across other reports of this, but if anyone out there knows what's going on, please post a solution here to help Dick and anyone else who gets bit with the same problem.

Unfortunately, I don't have a definitive answer for you. First step would be to check all the settings again. A typo could cause the kind of results you are seeing. If that doesn't surface the problem, I suggest you start checking the Gmail support pages. I've seen a couple of reports of odd problems connecting to Gmail recently, so it may be that they've done something to break things or that they have a fix for the problem you are seeing.

Thanks for this information. It's great when people can contribute like this. Now I haven't personally tried this solution. If anyone else chooses to try this, please post your results here.

I've seen a couple of posts online relating similar issues with Gmail recently, but none that have any sort of solution. Hopefully somebody else out there has seen a solution. Anyone have this problem and find a fix?

I already have an IMAP account setup to connect to my other online email. I have followed the instructions here and elsewhere. I’ve tried it automatically and manually. When I click the “Test Account settings” the process is completed successfully but then when I try to exit out of the process a second 'Test' is performed that then fails. Please help. After a degree of troubleshooting, I have found that if in the detailed contact fields (in outlook contacts, open a contact and view details for all mail fields) check the entry for Message Class. If it is anything other than IPM.Contact then in all likelyhood it will never sync.
I found a small utility on the internet which is great fir changing the Message Class without the usual method of writing a VB script. It is a small APP called DocMessageClass.exe and the version I found was at http://www.publicshareware.com/download/DocMessageClass.zip
The original company does not seem to exist anymore and I have run this on Outlook 2007 (it is claimed to run on earlier versions as well but I have not tested it anywhere) .
It is also listed on this liunk with a full description;

Usual precautions, MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP EVERYTHING BEFORE USE

However, I recently purchased a new computer and have been trying to set up Outlook 2010 to connect to my gmail account, have tried the process you've outlined, and still have no luck. When it tests the connection, I get a fail message, saying that the connection to the server failed. It tests sending as well, and I get a sent message from Outlook in my gmail account, but can't complete the process to link Outlook and Gmail. I've even turned off my anti-virus software since some of the suggestions I've found online seem to point to that as the problem.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi. The info on your website is very comprehensive.
