Configuring Your GMX Outlook Connection
Are you ready to make a GMX Outlook 2010 connection? GMX is a free, respected international email system, and an ideal partner for Outlook. Outlook 2010 can automatically recognize and configure itself to work with your GMX eMail account. So let’s get to work and configure Outlook for GMX access.
NOTE: If you are looking to create a GMX Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007 connection, follow the link at the end of this article to detailed instructions for those versions.
On this page, I’ll walk you through the process of configuring an IMAP (link opens in new window) GMX Outlook connection. With a GMX IMAP setup, you’ll be able to use either Outlook or your web browser with your GMX mail. The changes you make are automatically synchronized between each.
The end result of setting this up is that you don’t have to handle some of your email in Outlook, and some of it in the GMX web interface anymore. That will surely save you some time and hassles. Not to mention eliminating the embarrassing problem of missing something important because you failed to check one of your myriad email accounts.
Making a GMX Outlook 2010 Connection
Let’s get started. This will only take a few minutes.
NOTE: These instructions assume you already have a GMX Mail account. If not, you need to sign up for one of those first (remember, they are free). The following link opens a new window and takes you to the GMX mail home page so you can sign up for an account. Once you are done creating your account, close that window to come back here.
- In Outlook 2010, click the File tab on the Ribbon. In the “File” menu that appears, click Info to display the “Account Information” screen shown below.
- Click Add Account to open the “Add New Account” page of the “Auto Account Setup” wizard.
- Select the E-Mail Account option, then enter your account information (the Name you want to use with GMX mail, your full GMX email address and password) on this screen, then click Next. This tells Outlook to try to configure itself automatically. This will probably take several minutes, during which time the screen will look something like the one below.
- Once the wizard establishes a successful GMX to Outlook 2010 connection, it displays the congratulations screen shown below.

With the new account set up, Outlook includes a new folder in the Navigation Pane that corresponds to your GMX mailbox folders. That’s all there is to setting up a GMX Outlook connection using the automatic setup process.
Now that you have a working GMX Outlook connection, follow one of the links below to continue configuring Outlook email.

From here you can:
Go to the main Outlook 2010 email accounts page.
Go to the Outlook 2010 home page.
Learn how to set Outlook to open to the GMX folder you just created, rather than the default Outlook Inbox at this Startup Folder page.
Get instructions for connecting Outlook 2007 to GMX Mail.
